A four-story limestone-clad front addition and a rooftop addition were added to this townhouse. The existing front of the building was removed in the process. The first floor was built full to the property line to align with the west adjacent townhouse. The top three floors have a bay addition to capture more light and match two other buildings further to the east. A whole house-control system was installed to integrate HVAC, lighting, audio, visual, telephone and security systems.
A twenty foot tall one story addition was designed for the rear yard of this existing townhouse. An expanded custom kitchen was designed on the ground floor with an uninterrupted flow into the addition. The second floor was extended out and a curved custom stainless steel railing was installed to act as a balcony. Full height floor to ceiling cabinetry and shelving was installed on one side. The rear wall is predominately glass which was specified for minimal solar heat gain.
The front facade of this 5 story townhouse was redesigned and subsequently approved by Landmark Preservation at a public hearing. One door was replaced with a window on the ground floor. Security guards and a “Juliet “ style balcony were installed on the facade as well. A pair of French doors replaced an existing window. An in ground pool and Jacuzzi were built in the cellar. The remainder of the house was designed to accommodate the clients’ collection of antiques.
